This graffiti-covered, abandoned site is a setting for several films and TV shows, including “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “Oblivion,” and “NCIS: New Orleans.”
The now-defunct, early 20th Century power plant in is on the Mississippi riverfront in New Orleans, Louisiana. A Times-Picayune article called it “the largest electrical generating plant in the South” when it opened in 1905. It was constructed in 1905 and last produced power in 1973 (though I’ve been told by locals that some work was still done there in the ’80s.)
The plant was built by the New Orleans Railways Company, which later merged and reorganized into the city’s utility company, New Orleans Public Service Inc. (NOPSI.)
